A message from Inquisitor Cascadero

This is just a quick bit of background information for the Dark Heresy game I'm trying to get off the ground.

A Message from Inquisitor Cascadero to his newly recruited Acolytes 052.M42

Greetings acolytes,

I am sure that you all are curious as to why you were brought out here to the Calixis sector. Perhaps you even wish to know why you were even dragged out of the wretched filth you called your lives and into the glorious service of the Ordo Hereticus. There may even be questions about when, if ever, you’ll leave this sector.

However, none of those questions need to be answered at the moment. There is work to be done, and I need to test all of you before I can truly induct you into my retinue. It may come as a shock that you’ll need to be retested, seeing as it was your records of excellence that brought you to my attention in the first place. What I am testing you for this time is not individual skills, but for cohesion as a group, and your ability to complete objectives that I give you, without hesitation.

I have no use for anyone who thinks they can operate on their own. If anyone wishes to back out now, I’ll understand. The only penalty will be conversion into a combat servitor, at which point I will put you back into my service. If anyone tries to abandon the mission and go into hiding, then I will use all the resources at my disposal to bring them to the Inquisition. I will then personally deal with the deserter, and by the time I am finished, a trip to the Eye of Terror will seem like a walk to the spaceport.

But I am sure that none of you would ever harbor thoughts like that, so let us not dwell on those consequences. Your mission is simple. You are to make planetfall on Faba Infernalis, and find out any information you can about the whereabouts of a Chaos cult that has taken root. You are then to gain entry to their base of operations, and exterminate anything that moves with extreme prejudice. Failure to do so will result in termination.

Before you begin making plans of how to gather information, there is one thing you must know. Shortly before the departure of this ship, Faba Infernalis sent out an urgent request for more Guardsmen. It appears that a horde of orks has taken it upon themselves to burn the world to the ground. Normally, this wouldn't be cause for alarm, because orks are always attacking something or other, but the timing on this raid is impeccable. Because of the ork attack, the local arbitrators, PDF and the regiment of Guardsmen on the planet have had to drop their investigations in the city. There might be forces at work here that you cannot even begin to fathom, but I am sure that it is nothing anyone here can’t handle.

As for mission resources, I have managed to requisition a modified Chimera for your use. It has been modified for city fighting, and it should blend in with the local soldiers. Remember, subtlety is the key to success here. Do not show any signs that you may be part of the inquisition, or even servants of the Emperor. We want them to feel safe, complacent even, so that when the hammer falls, there will be no survivors.
